#2 This beautiful stone house in Stevensville, MT was built by Peggy Steffes, an incredible stone mason. There are several arches in this home with a full arched entryway where 4 arches come together.

#3 This rock home in Spain is nestled in the country and made completely of stone, even the roof.

#6 Rocky Retreat Villa in Mykonos, Greece is a holiday home that offers 2 private pools. The architecture of the Rocky Retreat Villa is built with a collection of stones which makes it look very unique.

#8 Stone Tower House in Georgia We are not sure whether this was built or just an architect rendering, but needless to say, super cool rock house with many windows.

#12 Prospect Tower Approached down an avenue of walnut trees, Prospect Tower sits at the edge of Belmont Park and has glorious views from the upstairs lounge. Accommodation is simple but elegant - a bedroom on the ground floor with shower room, and a lounge above with small adjoining kitchen, joined by a spiral staircase. An open log fire makes this an ideal retreat, perfect for relaxing after a healthy walk through the countryside.

Ancient Stonework

It is truly amazing to see some of the ancient stonework like on easter island or down in Peru. How in the world could primitive people with primitive tools move such large stones and build walls with such precision. It really defies logic and reason. And the pyramids of Egypt as well are an incredible marvel of stone masonry, yet truly unbelievable that they built these with primitive tools. The biggest of the stones below in the picture is estimated to weight 700,000 lbs. WOW!!!!

Great Stone Castles

Stone castles were defensive and could survive attacks by fire. The thickness of the walls served as a defense against weapons. The high walls also gave their archers a big view. These are some of the military reasons castles were built from rock.

They were more permanent than wood and if built correctly, stone castles would last hundreds of years. And obviously they were so grand, that only kings could afford them.

The disadvantages to stone castles were they were incredibly expensive and time consuming to build. Many medieval castles took years to build. The manpower to build these stone high rises was astounding to say the least. Click Here For More Stone Castle Information.
